Hi Brian, back in 1980 I saw with my brother from my Toronto Apartment on the 18th floor looking south towards Lake Ontario what appeared to be a perfect vivid white ball in the sky just above lake Ontario.
This white ball was hovering and moving in a square pattern and we just asked, what the heck is it, then in about 5 minutes of watching this ball it came to a sudden stop and within 10 seconds and it just zoomed off in a blink of an eye, no trails and no glare, but you could see that it was like it took off before it vanished.
In about another 5 minutes later we heard and saw 2 air force jets head towards the area that we saw the white ball. Many people saw this sighting since it was reported on the local radio news, but no explanation or follow up was given.
Never heard anything more about it after that. Once in awhile I hear UFO stories and it brings me back to that time in 1980 and wondering what the heck that white ball was. I am sure that it was not ball lightning, no cloud or storm in sight, the time was about 11:00 p.m. EDT.
At the time I was 21 years old and I really did not have much interest in UFO's and never did any follow up on my own. Makes you wonder if they are from out of this world or not.
I could understand why astronomers cannot see them since once they zoom off they disappear in a blink of an eye, like the Enterprise does when it goes into warp, best description I can come up with.

Following its last close flyby of Saturn's moon Rhea, NASA's Cassini spacecraft captured these raw, unprocessed images of the battered icy moon. They show an ancient, cratered surface bearing the scars of collisions with many space rocks. Scientists are still trying to understand some of the curious features they see in these Rhea images, including a curving, narrow fracture or a graben, which is a block of ground lower than its surroundings and bordered by cliffs on either side. Cassini flew by Rhea at an altitude of 620 miles (997 kilometers) on March 9, 2013. This flyby was designed primarily for the radio science sub-system to measure Rhea's gravity field. During closest approach and while the radio science sub-system was measuring the icy satellite's gravity field, the imaging team rode along and captured 12 images of Rhea's rough and icy surface. Outbound from Rhea, Cassini's cameras captured a set of global images from a distance of about 167,000 miles (269,000 kilometers).
Data from Cassini's cosmic dust analyzer were also collected to try to detect any dusty debris flying off the surface from tiny meteoroid bombardments. These data will help scientists understand the rate at which "foreign" objects are raining into the Saturn system.
This was the mission's fourth close encounter with Rhea. The spacecraft will pass the moon, but at a much greater distance, in a few years.

OCTOBER 27, 2013 - SPACE - Astronomers may have identified one of the richest planetary systems yet. The discovery of a seventh planet around the dwarf star KIC 11442793 could be a record, according to two separate teams of researchers. The system bears some similarities to our own, but all seven planets orbit much closer to their host star, which lies some 2,500 light-years from Earth. The crowded solar system is described in two papers published on the pre-print server Arxiv.org.One of the identifications was made by volunteers using the Planet Hunters website. The site was set up to allow volunteers to sift through the public data from Nasa's Kepler space telescope - which was launched to search for so-called exoplanets - worlds orbiting distant stars. Kepler uses the transit method to discover new planets, which entails looking for the dip in light as an alien world passes in front of its host star. But there is simply too much data for mission scientists to examine every light curve, so they developed computer programmes to search for the signature of a planetary transit. "This is the first seven-planet system from Kepler, using a transiting search. We think [the identification] is very secure," said Chris Lintott, from the University of Oxford, co-author on the Planet Hunters paper. "With a transiting system, once you get multiple planets, the odds of them being false positives are very small."Dr Lintott's team has submitted their research to the Astronomical Journal for peer review. Another team of astronomers from several European countries has submitted a separate paper outlining their independent discovery of the seventh planet to the Astrophysical Journal. The new planet is the fifth furthest from its parent star, orbiting with a period of nearly 125 days. With a radius of 2.8 times that of the Earth, it fits into a family that now includes two roughly Earth sized worlds, three "super-Earths" and two larger bodies. "It actually looks like our Solar System in one sense, with all the small planets on the inside and the big planets on the outside. And that's not necessarily what we always see," said co-author Robert Simpson, also from Oxford University. While there might be resemblances to our Solar System, all seven planets are closer to their host star. In fact they would all fit within the Earth's distance from the Sun, making this a very crowded neighbourhood. "This is one of the reasons they are easy to see, because the closer they are to their sun, the more frequently they go around it," said Dr Simpson. However, the Planet Hunters team carried out simulations showing that the planetary system should be a stable one. Dr Lintott, who co-presents the BBC's Sky at Night programme and helped found Planet Hunters, added: "Everything we know about this system tells us [the seventh planet] should have been found using the automatic detection routines. But it wasn't." "A seven-planet system is very complicated so you get a sense of why the automatic routine might have missed out - it gets confused by the presence of the other transits. "Looking for these transits seems like a task that's perfectly designed for computers. But we keep finding, in these niche cases, in these odd cases, in these complicated cases that humans can beat the computers." Another star, HD 10180, has been claimed to have either seven, or nine planetary signals. A distant sun called GJ 887C may also have a family of seven planets. Commenting on the paper by the Planet Hunters team, Andrew Collier Cameron, professor of astronomy at the University of St Andrews, said: "It's intriguing that a system as well-studied as KOI-351 can still harbour hidden surprises that can only be winkled out by human eyes." He added: "This is a perennial problem in transit hunting, of which we are only too acutely aware in our own ground-based searches. "The best transit signal-detection algorithms developed to date still come a very poor second to the human visual system when it comes to pattern recognition. Still, we have to rely on machines, because of the sheer volume of data produced by enterprises like transit searches." - BBC.
During a news flap over statements made by Shirley MacLaine last year about a UFO sighting that former Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich had, a number of other Democratic Candidates were asked how they felt about UFOs. Barack Obama told the late Tim Russert of NBC News that he was more concerned about improving the quality of people's lives here on Earth, than space aliens.
Obviously preferring to focus his attention on solving the terrestrial economic problems of U.S. Citizens, Barack Obama has also sent strong signals to NASA that he has little interest in spending billions of tax dollars on space exploration. He stood with Florida Senator and former Astronaut Bill Nelson at the Kennedy Space Center this past summer to declare that although he would support continued "basic research and development" at NASA over the long term, he would need to find ways to pay for it that would not take money away from programs that help people here on Earth in the short term.
Obama and many other democrats believe that promises made by President Bush regarding future NASA programs involving the Moon and Mars have always been strong on rhetoric and short on funding. Unlike the funded mandate outlined in his famous "We shall go to the Moon..." speech that the late President John F. Kennedy delivered to NASA's doorstep, the most that Bush and the various incarnations of the U.S. Congress that have existed during his Administration have done is sent the space agency a few dollars to develop vehicles needed to get to those places.
Apart from the fact that big money for space programs has been a hard sell even during the best of economic times in recent years, it's doubtful that President Elect Obama will be motivated to do much more than just keep the lights on at NASA and allow current plans for the International Space Station to go forward as long as they don't require too much funding. The real question is what will happen after he is sworn in as the forty-forth President of the United States.
I don't imagine that there were too many Champaign corks popping at the Pentagon after Obama won the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election. President Elect Obama is known to prefer diplomacy to military solutions. Whether he will go as far as former President Jimmy Carter did by trying to dismantle the CIA and cut military spending by billions when he got into office remains to be seen. What does seem to be certain is that not all U.S. Presidents receive the real E.T. briefing. Carter tried to get it from former CIA Director George H. Bush before he replaced Bush with a new director, but was turned down.
Times have changed and it's entirely possible that Obama will receive a briefing about UFOs and Aliens whether anyone in the military or intelligence gathering community wants him to have it or not. Given the number of UFOs seen worldwide over the past few years and the obvious military responses in the form of jet and helicopter chases, Obama may have to simply join a show already in progress. If that happens, look for the tell-tale changes in Obama's attitude towards UFOs, Aliens or Space Programs. A sudden and unexpected dependency on the military, a lack of interest in cutting their budget and overall adjustment of his political views may be one sign, but probably not the biggest.
I would expect a world-minded politician like Barack Obama to support UFO disclosure given the diplomatic and international relations possibilities such a move would offer our nation. Especially if he was convinced that extraterrestrials were really visiting our planet and impacting worldwide economies and technologies. Knowing that he could not affect change overnight, Obama might consider supporting disclosure with the hope that he could force the ultimate unveiling of alternative energy sources and new energy efficient technologies that have may have been developed as a result of captured or bartered UFO technology.
Several staff members working for movers and shakers in the Democratic Party have already claimed that some sort of 'summit' took place shortly after the Dennis Kucinich UFO affair last year to discuss how the Party faithful would react to UFO incidents in the future. However, most of these Party players probably do not have the clout needed to find out what's really happening with ET's and our government. Their responses would merely offer preplanned, politically correct lip service to the subject and Obama doesn't seem to be interested in that.
As President, Barack Obama's disinterest in UFOs may serve him better than Bill Clinton's interest in the subject. Bill and Hilary went out of their way to dig up information about extraterrestrials and the government during their time in the White House. The result was lackluster at best. Military members sent them serve serving reports and briefing statements indicating that there was nothing to the Roswell UFO incident and political cronies were stonewalled at every turn as their tried to unravel the UFO mystery from inside the Oval Office.
I think it's possible that some UFO insiders in the government may look at President Elect Obama as a sort of 'clean slate' type of politician given his statements about change. At best, they will trust him with the UFO secret and look for him to promote disclosure and provide positive leadership in that direction. At worst, they'll tell him their own version of the E.T. story and use his ability to sway public opinion to maintain control over all things extraterrestrial.

They live on an acreage with a clear view of the sky. I went out for a cigarette before I went to bed. While I was standing on the front porch facing west I saw a small light move on a 45 degree angle from a low position on the southwest horizon to a more west/northwest direction. The object stopped moving when it reached a height that in relation to a radio antenna about a mile from my parents home, that was at least 4 times higher than the antenna from my vantage point on the step. The object began to flash bright multicolored lights including red, blue, green,orange and purple. I ran into the house and called my 16 yr old niece to come out side and look at what I was seeing. I had brought my small pair of binoculars and I was able to get a better view of the individual colors and see that the object seemed to be rotating.My niece went inside, not comfortable with what she saw, so I ran back inside and got my mother out of bed to confirm what I was seeing. She and I continued to watch for 20-30 minutes before we too became quite uncomfortable and decided to go back inside. This was a very strange experience and I am a bit concerned about my sighting due to the fact that over the summer I have been educating myself about this type of phenomena, Mayan long count calendars, recent deciphered crop circles etc. This was the last thing I expected to see in North central Saskatchewan. One last thing, I normally do not remember my dream states when sleeping, possibly due to long term SSRI medication, but a day after the sighting I had a horribly vivid nightmare of my porcelain veneers on my teeth being separated from my real teeth with some type of instrument while I lay on a flat surface. I awoke in a panic, sweating and very scared. On Tuesday evening my daughter and I stepped out of the house and stood in front in our driveway just chitchatting about life. After a few minutes we were looking at the sky commenting on how blue/clear it was when we saw what appeared at first to be a skywriter. I didn't think too much of it but a couple of moments later took a second glance at it noted something that looked very peculiar. There was a long vapor trail but the weird thing was the vapor trail started what appeared to be a few hundred yards in front of the first craft. There were three crafts the first and third seem to be very similar if not identical the third was very easy to see was trailing the first two they were all on the line. The first craft was cigar shaped but mostly shrouded by the vapor trail that was making in front of the craft. The middle craft (if it was a craft) appeared to us is just a small star or real bright light we were never able to make out any craft shape. But all three maintained the same distance pretty much from one another flying in a straight line through the entire flightpath that we witnessed over a period of probably 3 or 4 min. When we first noticed it they were descending towards my house from the North West. they took a bend over us probably 1000 yards or a couple of miles infront and over us. And then ascended in the Northwest. My daughter and I stood in total amazement watching it disappear into the skies. When I say it, they were definitely three different objects. With regard to the objects the first and third were definitely crafts which made absolutely no noise they left and incandescent vapor trail. The thing that caught my eye at first was that the vapor trail look unlike any skywriter I've ever seen. With a skywriter the vapor trail is tight like a ballpoint pen immediately behind the craft. Then it looks more like a paint brush stroke as you get thousands of yards away from the craft. This was totally different. The width of the vapor trail in front of the first vehicle was the same with as the entire trail. When I started looking closer it was obvious that this wasn't the skywriter. The first craft I made out was the one shrouded in the beginning of the vapor trail. Then I quickly noticed another cigar shaped craft what appeared to be several thousand yards in trail. It was either lit up with lights or had a highly reflective metal exterior. It was too far away to make out any more detail than that. They were not any conventional type of aircraft which we see plenty of in the same area. There were no navigational lights or wings and the weird thing was the middle craft must've been either very very small where was the craft of all. I recognize this because after filming at the same time as i was thug comatose from the park, the flying saucer flew over me and it didn't get any association.
