The first of the types of alien encounter is often a 'close encounter from the first kind'. This may be the flagship for those UFO sightings. An encounter from the first kind is when a UFO is spotted at reasonably close range. When this event takes place nothing inside environment has affected - this is a sighting.
The second of types of alien encounter is the 'close encounter of the second kind'. Whilst being like the first kind you will find differences with this particular - namely effects for the environment. The types of effects for the environment are the normal, run of the mill events like scorched earth left from the underside in the craft, change in weather, car radios or engines turning off and other electrical anomalies.
Next we come towards the varieties of alien encounter that first caught my interest - close encounters of the third kind. The film depicts actual skin to skin experience of the alien beings but this is not necessarily true. Close encounters from the third kind is when the occupants of the UFO are met at reasonably close quarters. Interaction using these occupants is not needed to get classed like a third kind encounter.
A close encounter with the fourth kind is currently starting to become ever more popular for the modern day silver screen. The fourth kind is when things become a little scary. This is the place you have proper contact with an alien occupant. This however, isn't as 'friendly' as it can sound. Alien abductions are classed because fourth kind and these often cause experiments of some kind.
The final in the kinds of alien encounter is 'encounters with the fifth kind'. There is not much research or reports on this sort of encounter due to the fact these are always almost impossible to prove. Close encounters in the fifth kind is when you're taken on board an alien craft limited to that you never return.
Out of all these varieties of alien encounter the initial two encounters would be the most often reported. Encounters from the third and fourth kind are reported but sometimes get looked over with a little bit of ridicule.
