The history of the name "Sightings" and how it came to Jeff Rense and, ultimately, to our new worldwide UFO research and reporting center, directed by internationally-renowned UFO research authority, Brian Vike.
The first commonly-recognized use of the term 'Sightings' in the media was the successful 1990s tv series of the same name. Built around a strong paranormal theme, Sightings aired from 1992 to 1997 before going into rerun syndication. The show featured a broad scope of everything from UFOs and ETs to ghosts and bigfoot in an investigative news format, and was hosted by reporter Tim White. The Executive Producers of the show were Ann Daniels and Henry Winkler.
In 1994, Jeff Rense created his award-winning radio program in Santa Barbara, covering the UFO and Paranormal field in addition to a carefully-selected number of geopolitical, health and other eclectic topics. The program was called 'The End Of The Line with Jeff Rense' and Jeff still uses that same name as his subtitle after 16 years on the air.
His program took off fast, and by 1996, he had been signed to a five-year exclusive contract by the Premiere Radio Networks (now a Clear Channel landmark property). Premiere had been looking for someone to go against Coast-to-Coast for nearly three years... that is how special they viewed the necessary talent to vie with that dominant late night program. According to Premiere, the first time they heard a Rense program on tape, they knew their search was over. In fact, in cities that Jeff was placed head-to-head against Coast, he beat or tied the program.
The idea behind Premiere's search for a late night paranormal, multi-topic program was tied directly to Mr. Winkler and Ms. Daniels and Paramount television which had been wanting to project their Sightings TV series, at least in part, into radio. So, when Jeff joined Premiere, they handed him the name Sightings On Radio... which, quite honestly, was not a good fit given the extraordinary topics and people Jeff sought out and presented to the world.
During this time, Jeff also launched his famed "Sightings.com website" to expand upon the program and to explore and develop the exploding potential of the internet. In fact, Jeff was a primary pioneer in the interactive use of a live, nationally-syndicated radio talk program and an interactive website working in tandem to present leading and controversial personalities and information.
While with Premiere, Jeff's Sightings On Radio and Sightings.com successfully rivaled the immensely popular Coast-to-Coast show and website... until Jeff realized that world events and geopolitical subjects were moving far too fast and growing far too serious to have them stand behind a generally paranormal venue. After 12 years as an award-winning network affiliate television news director and anchorman, Jeff was growing more and more determined to push back, hard, at the mass of propaganda and mind control the controlled mainstream media had become.

EVEN IN THE STRANGE, OFTEN PARANOID, TWISTED, AND HIGHLY SPECULATIVE WORLD OF ALIEN LORE and UFOlogy, The Grinning Man is a mystery. The Grinning Man has been spotted several times during periods of intense UFO encounters (for instance, during the 1960s Mothman sightings). Maybe he has been seen around El Paso or Manhattan in the recent wave of sightings that were witnessed by thousands.
AT THE FAMOUS MOTHMAN SIGHTINGS, two teen-aged witnesses said he looked at them with what is sometimes referred to as a "s
-eating grin" on his face. According to researchers who interviewed the boys, he: "was over six feet tall, they agreed, and was dressed in a sparkling green coverall costume that shimmered and seemed to reflect the street lights. There was a wide black belt around his waist.
THE BOYS ALSO SAID "He had a very dark complexion, and little round eyes...real beady...set far apart." Oddly, "They could not remember seeing any hair, ears, or nose on this figure." During the Mothman sightings, the grinning man is alleged to have telepathically told a witness his name was Indrid Cold.
THE GRINNING MAN IS AN OBSCURE FIGURE associated with Alien Lore. Some scholars and observers believe he is an alien, and others that he was one of the government's Men in Black. Indrid Cold is thus far his best known incarnation. He has been investigated by notable paranormal author John A. Keel and ufologist James Moseley.
THE MOST FAMOUS SIGHTING OF THE GRINNING MAN went down on October 11, 1966 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. James Yanchitis and Marvin Munoz were walking home along Fourth Street. Yanchitis noticed the weird man first. "He was standing behind that fence"," he told investigators, "I don't know how he got there. He was the biggest man I ever saw. Jimmy nudged me"," Marvin Munoz told the cops, "and said, 'Who's that guy standing behind you?' I looked around and there he was... behind that fence. Just standing there. He pivoted around and looked right at us... then he grinned a big old grin." During the same period of time, on that same street, on the same night, a middle-aged resident of the neighborhood was chased by a "tall green man" The boys skedaddled as soon as they saw The Grinning Man.
ACCORDING TO PARANORMAL INVESTIGATOR/journalist John A. Keel, and the UFO lecturer James Moseley, Munoz and Yanchitis were interviewed by them separately and told the exact same story. "The man was over six feet tall, they agreed, and was dressed in a sparkling green coverall costume that shimmered and seemed to reflect the street lights. There was a wide black belt around his waist." The freakiest part of the encounter is that "They could not remember seeing any hair, ears, or nose on this figure."
THE GRINNING MAN, A/K/A INDRID COLD was linked to extraterrestrials due to a UFO report in the same area. A report states that a "blazing white light as big as a car" almost hit a 550-foot tall television tower near Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. A policeman and his wife witnessed an object move in a slow arc north, until it disappeared over some nearby hills. On the other side of those hills, two other cops--Sgt. Benjamin Thompson and a Patrolman, Edward Wester, of the Wanaque Reservoir Police, witnessed the same light at 9:45 p.m. as it flew over the reservoir. "The light was brilliantly white," officer Thompson said, "It lit up the whole area for about three hundred yards. In fact, it blinded me when I got out of the patrol car to look at it, and I couldn't see for about twenty minutes afterwards."
NUMEROUS GRINNING MAN SIGHTINGS HAPPENED in 1966, about the same time as the West Virginia Mothman sightings. They are reported by John A. Keel in chapters 5 and 10 in his book "THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES."
ON NOVEMBER 2, 1966, a man named Woodrow Derenberger was driving his panel truck home after work when he heard a crash. A vehicle raced up behind him, cut in front of him and slowed down. Derenberger said the car looked like "an old fashioned kerosene lamp chimney, flaring at both ends, narrowing down to a small neck and then enlarging in a great bulge in the center"."
THE UFO STOPPED ON THE ROAD, and a door slid open. A man stepped out, wearing a "glistening green" uniform like the outfit worn by the New Jersey Grinning Man. Naturally, he was grinning.
THE MAN COMMUNICATED WITH DERENBERGER telepathically and said his name was "Cold", and asked him strange questions, and the two talked for a few minutes. The Grinning Man said he would visit him again.
ANOTHER CASE DETAILED IN THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES BOOK, happened in the home of the Lillys, a family living in Point Pleasant. The Lillys claimed to see strange lights in the sky right above their home at least every night, and experienced strange events in their house. Mrs. Lilly said "We've seen all kinds of strange things...blue lights, green ones, red ones, things that change color. Some have been so low that we thought we could see diamond-shaped windows in them. And none of them make any noise at all." Automobiles near the Lilly home would stall for no reason, and kitchen cabinets and doors inside the Lilly home would slam inexplicably in the middle of the night. Mrs. Lilly said she sometimes heard a sound like "a baby crying" throughout the inside of the home.
JOHN A. KEEL, WHO INVESTIGATED THE LILLY FAMILY, asked "Did you ever dream that there was a stranger in the house in the middle of the night?" Linda Lilly, the daughter, said she had seen "a man, a big man. Very broad. I couldn't see his face very well, but I could see that he was grinning at me.

I was getting ready for bed at approximately midnight, as I was walking to my sliding glass door to lock it I noticed a light reflecting on top of the trees and trailers next door moving quickly,( I live in a stilted house with a raised deck that overlooks my neighbors), I said to myself out loud "what the hell is that". I thought at first a large bird had flown so close to the glass that it distorted the light but immediately realized that this was impossible.I opened my door and stepped out onto my deck just in time to see this gigantic flying chevron or wing heading north and ascending at the same time. The only reason I could tell it was a flying object was because the lights were uniform in size a distance between them, and in between the lights the actual stars were blocked out. I felt it was cloaked to blend into the night sky because the lights looked like the surrounding stars. There was no sound and I watched as the object simply disappeared into the night sky. It looked as if it went through a wormhole or a tear in the fabric of space. I can't quantify the size exactly but it was larger that 10 747s side by side and relative to the size actually seemed to move slow as I watched it fly away. I was so mesmerized that I am not sure exactly how long I watched it but it could not have been more than 10 or 15 seconds. I have longed believed that we are not alone in the universe and have always wished to see something but felt the odds were astronomical, but my excitement at seeing this was so amazing I couldn't wait to tell my husband and son. I am truly a believer now. I wished I had just stepped out a few seconds or a minute sooner so I could have watched longer or been able to film this phenomenon.

UFO SIGHTING IN PENNSYLVANIA ON OCTOBER 24TH 2013 - HEARD LOUD AIRCRAFT LOOKED OUTSIDE TO SEE JETS PURSUING WHAT APPEARED TO BE A GLOWING ORB
Heard loud aircraft and looked outside to see jets pursuing what appeared to be a glowing orb. I was working in my garage when I heard a loud aircraft. This was louder than your typical plane. I opened the door and looked up immediately. Right as I did I saw an orb fly directly over me at very fast speeds. Right after that what appeared to be jets chasing it. As it flew right over my house, I kept watching them as they flew away over the tree line. They were going really fast. A typical plane takes about 3 minutes to pass by. These guys were going so fast that I only had what seemed like a few seconds to see them. The orb was a white light that didn't appear to be blinking. The jets had your typical lights on them and they were blinking. Their lights seemed awfully bright though, maybe it was because they were so low to the ground. As the orb and what I will say were jets were almost out of sight, the orb appeared to have an outline of a triangle but it almost appeared to be cloaked. If this was a triangle craft, it wouldn't be the first one I have ever seen, back in 2001 I saw another sighting of a very large triangle craft that was hovering over a river. That's why when I first saw the outline of the triangle I was thinking that my mind was just wanting to see a triangle craft again. After reading more reports online that saw similar last night, I think it could have been another one, only smaller than the last. I wish I could talk to those pilots and get some facts. Also, Their flight path was straight, no turns. They were flying really low to the ground. If i were to estimate I would say 2,000 - 5,000 feet but it would be really hard for me to judge that accurately. This happened at almost exactly midnight.

UFO SIGHTING IN MASSEY, ONTARIO ON AUGUST 22ND 2013 - UNKNOWN BRIGHT LIGHT IN SKY SEEN AND RECORDEDOn August 20, 2013, my partner and I had travelled to Sagamok First Nation territory to scout out some film locations for a current project. During the evening of August 22nd, 2013, we camped at Toulouse Bay at my partner's mom's cabins which are located on the shores of the Toulouse Bay. Approximately at 11:30 pm that evening, we were both sitting enjoying a campfire and discussing the days activities. When I looked up into the clear night sky, I made the comment on how beautiful it is to get out of the city and how bright the stars are. There before both of us was a bright penny sized white glowing object that was moving at a faster rate than most aircraft that I have seen. It was directly above us moving from the west to the east. The object did not make any sound whatsoever. It was totally silent as it passed over us. I first thought it was probably just a satellite but the object was to large to be that. I rushed and started my Sony HDR-HC3 camera. I managed to capture 2 minutes of footage of this object flying away from us. The trees are visiable in the last part of the footage which gives you a perspective of how fast and the size of the object was when compared with the stationary trees. The object just faded out of sight as it moved away from us. I have never experienced anything like this before which was not explainable. SEPTEMBER 02, 2013 - SPACE - Astronomers have discovered a scorching-hot "lava world" whose year lasts just 8.5 hours and determined that another planet candidate with an even tighter orbit is likely composed almost entirely of iron.

The newfound Earth-size exoplanet Kepler-78b is so close to its host star that its surface is likely an enormous ocean of lava, researchers said. Further, the discovery team was able to detect light emitted by the planet - a first for a world so small.
In a separate study, some members of the same research group also calculated that KOI 1843.03 - a potential exoplanet detected last year that zips around its star in just 4.25 hours - must be made primarily of iron to survive the powerful tidal forces so close to its host star.
"Just the fact that it's able to survive there implies that it's very dense," Josh Winn of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a co-author on both papers, said in a statement. "Whether nature actually makes planets that are dense enough to survive even closer in - that's an open question, and would be even more amazing."
Both Kepler-78b and KOI 1843.03, which has yet to be confirmed by follow-up observations, were detected by NASA's planet-hunting Kepler space telescope.
Kepler was designed to spot exoplanets by noting the tiny brightness dips caused when they pass in front of, or transit, their host stars from the instrument's perspective. Kepler did this work from shortly after its March 2009 launch until mid-May of this year, when a malfunction robbed the observatory of its precise pointing ability.
NASA is now considering new missions for the prolific spacecraft, which has detected more than 3,500 candidate planets to date, with many more likely waiting to be pulled out of its massive dataset.
While the original 600 million Kepler mission is primarily interested in finding potentially life-supporting, Earth-like alien planets, Winn and his colleagues searched specifically for worlds about the size of our own in extremely tight orbits.
"We've gotten used to planets having orbits of a few days," Winn said. "But we wondered, what about a few hours? Is that even possible? And sure enough, there are some out there."
Kepler-78b is such a planet, with a year about the length of a typical workday for people on Earth. The planet is 40 times closer than Mercury is to the sun - so close that researchers hope to measure its gravitational influence on the parent star, which in turn could help nail down Kepler-78b's mass. This has never been done before for an Earth-size alien planet, scientists said.
Temperatures at Kepler-78b's surface likely exceed 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit (2,760 degrees Celsius), making the world a poor candidate to host alien life. But some extremely close-orbiting planets may be potentially habitable, as long they circle the right type of body.
Winn and his colleagues, for example, are now looking for worlds around brown dwarfs, strange objects that are bigger than gas giant planets but too small to spark the internal fusion reactions that power stars.
"If you're around one of those brown dwarfs, then you can get as close in as just a few days," Winn said. "It would still be habitable, at the right temperature."
The research team discovered Kepler-78b by noting the effects of its transit. But they also were able to detect the light given off by the planet itself, by measuring how much the overall light dimmed each time Kepler-78b disappeared behind its host star.
The exoplanet's light is probably a combination of radiation from its hellishly hot surface and starlight reflected off lava and atmospheric gases, researchers said.
The Kepler-78b discovery paper was published Friday (Aug. 16) in The Astrophysical Journal. The KOI 1843.03 study came out late last month in Astrophysical Journal Letters. - YAHOO.
