Interesting questions asked here. The big one though, is just how is it possible for a planet to explode at all. Assuming only a third of the mass is involved to make the whole exercise worthwhile, all that mass M must achieve a velocity able to remove it from the planet's center of mass but also outside the planetary orbit itself.
The only prospective planet is actually Mars. It requires the elimination of gravity over a large enough disc to allow all material to migrate to the ejection jet so formed. Olympus Mons looks like the remnant of such a jet and exploding and pop corning rock would fill the jet to possibly produce the asteroid belt..
This is the best explanation for Olympus Mons i have come up with so far. Add in all the rock used for the early bombardment event and we likely have another Earth originally. My real point though is that no chemical process caused any of this. So all that explosive record may be produced by gravity manipulation to engineer this solar system.
This could also be a lot more recent than we expect as well.

UFO SIGHTING IN ELIZABETH CITY, NORTH CAROLINA ON JUNE 29TH 2013 - REDDISH ORANGE GLOWING FOG OR CLOUD WAS OBSERVED BESIDE A THUNDERSTORM FROM OUR DECK.
My wife and me were outside on the deck watching the thunderstorm approach from the southwest when out of no where a reddish orange fog or cloud appeared. It started out dull in brightness but soon got brighter and brighter and was in my opinion roughly 10 to 15 miles away. As it was becoming brighter it was making its way towards our direction from the southwest and the closes it came was roughly 1/4 of a mile from us. This event lasted roughly 10 minutes and it gave my wife and I a strong feeling of eeriness as it was making progress towards us and becoming bigger and bigger. The weird thing is we never saw a distinct detailed craft, we only saw a glowing fog or cloud that seemed to have intelligent control. This dense fog or cloud just dissipated after getting that close to us and it took roughly 2-3 seconds for it to dissappear. If anything has any idea what this was please add on your opinion. Also there was no noise only a creepy feeling.

They were too high and slow moving to be fireworks.
My friend does not believe in UFOs, but she saw this. Could it be satellites? Others in the neighborhood saw them as well. I live in San Jose, CA.

The United States has inaugurated a massive radio telescope in rural West Virginia to listen for signs of extraterrestrial life on 86 Earth-like planets.

In what might be called a blast from the UFO past, a UFO crashed in the Siberian town of Chita this week and the Russian government blamed it on a "gas balloon explosion." Balloon? That is so 1947! And gas? Was there a swamp nearby?
The UFO crash occurred on April 9th, 2015, in Chita, a city in southeastern Siberia with a population of over 324,000. Eyewitnesses said it "fell from the sky." Chita resident Vladimir Milovanov described what he experienced to a local TV reporter.
I heard an explosion and saw a huge pillar of black smoke around 11 or 12 a.m..
No one was injured but the UFO or the concussion from the explosion caused damage to a nearby building and the UFO made a crater in a field where the huge pillar of black smoke arose. The object left a crater where metal wreckage was found. Based on the crater and the damaged parts, the UFO was estimated to be one meter in diameter.
The debris was collected and sent somewhere for testing, possible to the local office of EMERCOM (Ministry of Emergency Situations). The Eastern Military District said there were no operations in the area at the time. It was a spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs who issued this statement:
The object could not be identified. It does not resemble anything. One of the theories [of what happened] - gas balloon explosion.
Sounds like the Ministry needs to update its list of UFO excuses. As you may remember, the 1947 Roswell UFO incident was initially blamed on a weather balloon. And the 1966 UFO sightings in Michigan made the phrase "swamp gas" famous.
This is not the first UFO seen in Chita - another was reported by multiple witnesses in 2009.

So what was the UFO that crashed in Chita? While the city is nowhere near those mysterious Siberian craters where a spaceship was reportedly seen inside one last week, it is near Lake Baikal, the site of numerous UFO and alien encounters where Steven Spielberg is reportedly planning to make a documentary.

Texas' UFOs are back - just in time for Halloween.
Reports of UFOs sighted over North Central Texas last week are the latest in an apparent sequel to the Stephenville sightings in January, which made headlines nationwide.
Dozens of residents in and around Erath County reported seeing strange lights in the sky the evening of Oct. 23, according to the "Stephenville Empire-Tribune, "which also reported that the military has confirmed the presence of F-16s in the area at that time.
"I think more people are willing to come forward now that more people are talking about this," said Whitney White-Ashley, a reporter for the paper.
CNN reported last week's sightings, interviewing Dublin resident Andy Monroe, who caught a 30-second video of a line of red lights he says encircled an oval shape floating in the sky.
Most of the descriptions are of an oval shape with lights around the outside, said Alejandro Rojas with the Mutual UFO Network, a nationwide organization created in 1969 to scientifically study UFO sightings. A MUFON investigator is interviewing witnesses, and the group has already sent requests for radar data from the F-16s.
"These are descriptions that were sent into our Web site the night of the sighting, so they could not have been something just copied from media coverage," Rojas said.
JANUARY SIGHTINGS
In or around Jan. 8, dozens of people around Dublin and Stephenville - about 70 miles southwest of Fort Worth - reported seeing something that did not move like conventional aircraft.
Descriptions varied. Some told of objects up to a mile long and hundreds of yards high. Others reported seeing two to eight lights that flew in formation, changed color and shone with intensity greater than a welding flame. Some witnesses said the objects were accompanied or followed by military jets.
LATEST TEXAS SIGHTINGS
According to MUFON'S Web site:
Near Dublin. A couple said that at about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday they were headed west on U.S. 377 when they saw a flying object sporting three sets of three lights in a semicircle.
Dallas. A man said he was walking his dog at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when he saw a triangle-shaped object with orange lights flying silently almost due south over downtown.
Fairfield. Residents reported seeing from their porch an oval object glowing red while hovering at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the southwest. "Occasionally it would throw a whitish blue light. We could see other air traffic way high above it [planes fly along Interstate 45 as a normal route]. This looked nothing like what else was in the sky."

A Florida witness at Palm Harbor reported watching a hovering, boomerang-shaped UFO with three bright white lights, according to testimony in Case 63122 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness and his wife as a passenger were driving northbound along East Lake Road and approaching a stop light when the object was first seen on February 5, 2015.
"I looked up at approximately 70 degrees and noticed a series of three bright, white lights," the witness stated. "There were no red aircraft lights."

As the witness vehicle moved toward the object, trees obstructed their view. But another 40 yards later, they saw the object again.
"The object reappeared approximately at the same location where it was first sighted, indicating it had not moved from the point where it was first sighted 10 seconds before."
The object again seemed to be hovering in a stationary position in the sky under 500 feet and less than 500 feet from the witness.
"There were no flashing or colored lights. There was no fuselage, only a boomerang-shaped wing with a white light at the apex and one on each wing tip."
The witness moved when the light changed and they circled back in about three minutes only to see that the object was gone.
"I probably could have subtended the object with my extended hand. This is not a familiar flight path. It was dark except for street lights and a full moon which did not interfere with the sighting, however, it may have served to back light the object and make the silhouette of the wing easy to see. The lights were large in proportion to the actual wing they appeared affixed to, making the proportions different than a passing aircraft. It was over in about 10 seconds or less, but it was really cool."

Palm Harbor is a community in Pinellas County, Florida, population 57,439.
Florida is currently a UFO Alert Level 5 - with 1.92 sightings per million population based on MUFON January 2015 statistics. Florida received a total of 37 UFO reports in January.
The UFO Alert Rating System is based on five levels - 1 through 5 - where states with 4.01 or higher reports per million residents are rated an Alert 1; 3.01 - 4.0 reports are an Alert 2; 2.51 - 3.0 are an Alert 3; 2.01 - 2.5 are an Alert 4; and those states with 2.0 or lower are rated an Alert 5.

GLOWING UFOS
Helen and Barry moved to their current address, a quiet cul-de-sac in Huntington on the edge of Cannock Chase in July 1990 when they were both 43 years old. They have a good view from their lounge to the North of both open fields and dense forest.

One night in May 1992 the couple were sitting outside when they noticed a bright white light to the North over the Chase. As they watched, the object moved up and down, side to side, and periodically shone down a bright beam of light to the ground. Due to these movements they initially assumed it was nothing more than a helicopter. However suddenly the object vanished, leaving nothing but a red trail across the sky for several seconds! The couple were amazed by what they had just witnessed.
The following evening the same object was back in the sky again, roughly the same place it had been previously. Helen and Barry began watching it intently. To Helen the object appeared more long than round in shape, it reminded her of a dragonfly. After a short while a red glowing orb of light appeared below and to the left of the main object. Soon after this a second red orb appeared below and to the right. The two red orbs moved closer together until they were directly under the main object. Then all three unidentified lights vanished at once.
Astoundingly this same thing began happening every night for the rest of the week. It always happened at the same time in the same location. Helen and Barry informed their teenage children and their next door neighbour of the objects, and on numerous evenings they too saw them. After about a week the lights no longer appeared in the sky.
However this wasn't the last time they were seen. They appeared on several other weeks between June and August. Each time they would reappear for numerous days in a row.
In July one of their neighbours was having a leaving party for a Scandinavian exchange student who had been visiting for the week. During the evening, the unusual glowing object was once again seen in the sky, this time very low down. Their neighbour found some binoculars and some of those present managed to get a closer look at the object. Like usual, the two red orbs appeared underneath and then the lights appeared to fly away in a North Westerly direction extremely fast. The exchange student was astounded by what she had seen.
The UFOs appeared so regularly during those months that it became quite common to observe them. Barry would just say to Helen "You friend's in the sky again tonight!" The couple were unsure if anyone else also noticed the lights in the area; if they did they kept quiet about it. Helen used to regularly check the newspapers to see if anything was reported but the lights were never mentioned.
MISSING TIME
At the end of August for the bank holiday weekend, the family decided to go on holiday to Tywyn in Wales where they own a caravan. Their eldest son travelled with his sister in his own car. Barry and Helen travelled in their car with their 5 year old son. They set off in the early hours of the morning at about 2.30am to avoid the traffic. About 10 minutes into the journey Barry realised that the car was not driving fast. They advised their son to split up from them and take the M54 motorway from Featherstone. They assumed that the reduced speed was due to some unclean petrol. Barry decided that the best course of action would be to travel back home, siphon off some of the petrol, then they could top it up at a 24 hour petrol station, before travelling on the A5 to Telford.
When they arrived home they found that the car was responding a bit better, so decided to continue their journey through Penkridge to the A5 without bothering to stop to siphon off any petrol. As they left the house Barry noticed the glowing light in the sky again in the usual position. He pointed it out to Helen.
They continued on their journey. It was a very clear night with no rain. The road was very quiet with hardly any other traffic. They travelled at a slower speed than normal, about 45 mph. The distance to the caravan at Tywyn was 106 miles.
As they left Welshpool on the A458 and began driving up a long hill, Barry said to Helen "Your friend must be keeping an eye on us!" Helen looked out of the left passenger window and noticed a bright white light in the sky, which looked very similar to the glowing light they had seen over the Chase on many occasions. It was higher in the sky than they had normally seen the UFO at. As they were travelling West at that point not North, Helen thought that the light must be a bright star or planet rather than the UFO.

They continued driving and the light remained to the left of them in the sky. As they approached a deep valley which leads to Mallwyd, Helen noticed that the light seemed to be getting nearer to them. She pointed this fact out to Barry. He continued to drive, keeping one eye on the road and the other on the light. They neared an area which they have nicknamed "the wilderness" due to the fact that the fields on one side of the road are always brown and scorched, while the other side is always green. There is a line of pine trees growing in this area. The light now got brighter and seemed to be hovering low down over these trees. It was now quite close to the road and clearly an object rather than just a bright star.

Helen was now very frightened due to the proximity of the object. She stared up at it through the passenger side window. The object was long and cigar-shaped, and had small illuminated square windows along it. It was at least the size of an aeroplane, and seemed to be completely silent. It appeared to follow alongside them for a short distance, during which it briefly shone down some searchlight-like beams towards them. They then turned a sharp bend at the start of the valley. Helen now saw the familiar red orbs arrive. One came in from the left, and the other from the right.
At this moment all the objects flew off together extremely fast down the valley and out towards the sea. Barry and Helen did not say much to each other after it had gone. They were quite shocked at what had taken place. By the time they reached the caravan, it was beginning to get light. They both felt exhausted. Their 5 year old son had been asleep in the back of the car for the entire time.
When they arrived their children looked extremely happy to see them. They soon found out that the time was now 7 o'clock in the morning! The journey had taken far longer than it should have. They had set off at 2.30 am. By the time they had returned home after the car started going slow it was around 2.50 am. The journey from their home to the caravan was 106 miles and they were driving approximately 45 mph. Therefore they should not have arrived any later than 5.10 am. There was nearly 2 hours of time they could not account for. Both Barry and Helen were very confused by what had happened, as they had no recollection of stopping at any point to observe the UFO.

The couple told their son and daughter all about what had happened, but have not spoken to many others about it. In Helen's own words "Unless something like this has happened to you, it is difficult to expect people to understand. It is beyond reasoning. There are no explanations".
FURTHER SIGHTINGS
After the missing time experience, the UFO was not seen again over Cannock Chase until the following year. In the summer of 1993 they only saw the object on several occasions, but it was still enough to know that they were still in the area for whatever purpose. On one of these occasions they had gone to pick up Helen's father from Bloxwich to bring him back to theirs for a visit. Prior to this experience her father had been sceptical about what had been observed, but now he too had become a witness, and from this point onward kept an eye on the night sky.
The UFO would not be seen again for many years after this. However in 2010 Helen and Barry once again spotted it in the sky over the Chase. They observed it for around an hour. As had been seen on previous occasions it was shooting beams of light down into the forest. During this incident they attempted to take photographs. Unfortunately the light from the object was too bright and the photos didn't come out correctly. Since then the object has not returned to the area, but due to the amount of repeated times it has been seen it is likely that the witnesses have not seen the last of it.
ANALYSIS OF EVENTS
It seems incredible that a UFO would return to the same area again and again. In most cases a UFO will be seen only once at a specific location, or only a few times within a particular area. However due to the aspects of what has been observed, it is very hard to provide a suitable mundane explanation for what has been seen.
The obvious explanation for the lights seen at a distance would be a helicopter over the Chase, military or otherwise, performing a regular operation for whatever purpose. However there are several reasons why this could not have been the case. First of all, if the helicopter did switch its lights off suddenly this could give the appearance that it had vanished, but not leave a glowing red trail in the air. It was clear that the objects had not just switched off but had left the area at an extreme speed. This was observed on many occasions, so an optical illusion seems very unlikely. While the colours of the lights seen - white and red - were correct for helicopter navigation lights, the white light had an elongated shape, it was not simply a glowing light. Also the red lights did not appear alongside the white one, they would appear separated and then move towards each other shortly before all the lights would vanish. Again if the lights had only been seen once, you could perhaps assume this was just an illusion caused by a change in angle of view. However the lights were seen time and time again performing this same pattern. If it was just due to viewing angle surely the red lights would sometimes have been visible immediately? The lights were also seen by the whole family, their neighbours and other individuals. Surely this many people could not mistake helicopter lights for something far more unusual?
Then we must take into account the fact that the lights were seen much closer up during the couple's journey to Wales. It was clear that these were the same objects that had been seen over the Chase, and to separate them as entirely different objects is unrealistic. It was also clear that the white light was a cigar-shaped self illuminated object, which even had a row of visible windows along it. The red orbs of light were definitely separate objects and not connected in any way to the main glowing object.
The missing time aspect of the close encounter with the UFOs is fascinating, and does suggest that something else occurred. There are many cases of abductions taking place while people have been out driving in their car. These incidents usually begin with a UFO approaching the vehicle, which is often followed by a period of missing time which cannot be accounted for. This is because the memories of the experience are often blocked out, probably to reduce the trauma involved. Barry and Helen were aware of the time they had set off from home, the speed they were driving at, and the distances involved to reach their destination. It was clear that the journey had taken nearly 2 hours longer than it should have. This fact was concurred by their son and daughter who were extremely worried by the time Barry and Helen did arrive at the caravan.
I recommended a hypnotic regression to attempt to discover what may have happened during the period of missing time. However at present the couple do not wish to proceed with this as they are worried by what might be unearthed. If they change their minds then this report may later be updated with additional details that come to light. It may also be updated if the family have any further sightings of the UFO over Cannock Chase. I have suggested that they get hold of a decent infra red camera to attempt to capture the UFO on film if it should reappear.

The other night I had dinner with a bunch of writer, filmmaker, actor and otherwise creative friends, and I was talking about my J. Allen Hynek book project with Cxxx, a documentary filmmaker. I mentioned that I was trying to track down a video copy of the November 8, 1973 episode of "The Dick Cavett Show", but wasn't having any luck so far...
The episode of this classic American TV talk show is important to my book research because it brought together Dr. Hynek, Dr. Carl Sagan, best-selling author and creator of the PBS TV series "Cosmos," recent UFO abductee Charles Hickson, recent UFO witness and helicopter pilot Army Capt. Lawrence Coyne and UFO witness and NASA astronaut James McDivitt to talk about the "flap" of UFO sightings that had been sweeping the nation for months. The program is perhaps most notable for bringing Hynek and Sagan together, as Hynek had become known as a proponent of serious UFO research and Sagan had become known as a proponent of serious UFO skepticism.
Sagan had been systematically picking holes in Capt. Coyne's account of how a UFO had pulled his Army helicopter up nearly 2,000 feet in altitude during his encounter, and Dr. Hynek came to Coyne's defense, saying "Altimeters don't hallucinate. To which Dr. Sagan replied, "I don't mean to attack Captain Coyne, but people who "read "altimeters hallucinate."
Ouch... That had to have left a mark.
So at dinner, my friend Cxxx asked what TV network the show had appeared on. Turns out that in his work making documentary films, he frequently requests archival footage from TV networks, and they happily oblige. So he's offered to approach ABC and request access to this episode of "The Dick Cavett Show"... which is just amazing. Thank you, Cxxx!
My best idea up to that point had been to write to Dr. Sagan's widow and ask if she had a copy of the show that she could give me access to, but that was a tricky letter. How could I explain that I wanted to see the video so I could write in my book what a knob her husband had been to everyone on the show? Clearly that wasn't going to work, so I just wrote her a very bland, generic letter. I think Cxxx's approach is better.

Why is Carl Sagan smiling? Maybe because he thinks he knows exactly "when extraterrestrial civilizations have visited the earth.
So, yeah, I'm conflicted. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for both Dr. Hynek and Dr. Sagan, and I hate to see them fight. But here's why Sagan's disdain for the UFO experience is so problematic. He believed that life almost certainly must exist elsewhere in the universe. And he believed that at least some life on other planets must be technologically advanced and capable of interstellar travel. And he believed that some of those civilizations could very well have visited earth in the distant past. But he ridiculed people who believed that they were still visiting the earth in 1973...
His logic was that the time and distance between our world and theirs must be so great that they would only visit us every couple hundred thousand years or so. But it seems to me that he was making some very big assumptions there, and engaging in what Dr. Hynek was fond of describing as "temporal provincialism," or the belief that an alien race would have to be locked into the same developmental timeline as we are.
I love you Carl, but I think you blew it on this one. I don't mean to attack you, but people who accuse people of reading altimeters of hallucinating hallucinate.
David Chalmers, philosopher of the mind, states that the issue of deciphering the mystery of qualia is the "hard problem" concerning the understanding of consciousness. So it is with Salas and Hastings, both conjoined together, having their own version of "the hard problem", that being phenomena-wise, either as co-existing together, or as separate entities. Can the one exist without the other, or does Salas' claims survive solely on an "incident" involving Echo Flight?
Robert Hastings recently posted an article on The UFO Chronicles web site, "UK UFO Debunker Strikes Again: Will Dr. David Clarke Ever Get Anything Right?" In the midst of the article, Hastings makes the following statement:
"As for James Carlson's completely discredited claim about there being no UFO involvement in a full-flight missile shutdown at Malmstrom, on March 16, 1967, one may "hear what actually happened" from the lips of Carlson's father's deputy missile commander, retired Col. Walter Figel, by listening to the tape recorded conversations Salas and I had with Figel years ago, before he began nervously changing his story after the public spotlight fell on him. Unfortunately for the timid, now-waffling Figel, his earlier admissions are a matter of record..."Hastings now believes that Figel is "timid and now-waffling", yet his "earlier admissions are a matter of record, ergo" the truth. So was he telling the truth back in 1996 and 2008, but now he is lying in 2010? Perhaps James Carlson is not so "discredited " after all when the main witness is now being treated as a hostile witness. Hastings and Salas have been using Figel's statements for years in an attempt to shore up their UFO claims, yet when you read both interviews they are filled with contradictions. Both versions of the Echo incident can't be reconciled with one or the other. One version may be fabricated based upon the confabulations of the interviewee and the wishful thinking of authors leaving the other as the "correct" version. But, which one is which? Figel's statements are fundamentally different when each interview is viewed separately. With this revelation, one begs to ask the question...Who is the real Figel in any of the versions of the story? Contradictions abound and one has to wonder if both Hastings and Salas were totally oblivious to the differences in Figel's statements or were both willing to "throw caution to the wind " with the hopes that no one would notice the discrepancies. If both authors knew of the contradictions in Figel's interviews then one is led to believe that this was an attempt at deception, but who is deceiving who? The answer lies in Figel's statements made separately to Hastings and Salas, twelve years spaced between the two interviews.
"WALTER FIGEL'S VERSION ACCORDING TO SALAS
In 1996, Salas interviewed Walter Figel, presumably, for the purpose of providing information on Echo Flight that would soon go into the book, Faded Giant. In this setting, Salas needs the Echo incident, UFOs and all, to form the foundation of an initial erroneous November flight shutdown and eventually the final settlement of an Oscar flight shutdown. Figel tells Salas that on 16 March 1967, all ten of Echo's sorties dropped off of alert. Figel tells Salas that two of his ten LFs had maintenance teams on site performing maintenance on the "cans" (slang for missile guidance system). One of the LFs, site not specified, dropped off alert and Figel contacts the security team via VHF radio. Figel has the security guard authenticate and asks for one of the maintenance team members. The security guard tells Figel that there is a UFO hovering over the site. Figel dispatches the SAT strike teams to both manned LFs. By then, the remaining LFs would have already dropped off of alert status. The strike teams report back to Figel that they were able to observe that each manned LF had a maintenance team and security guards on site. (Figel does not mention any observations of a UFO at this point in the interview.) Figel states that after the incident he made a special trip to Offutt AFB for the purpose of briefing CINCSAC:
WF: I remember I got a trip to Omaha to discuss [the Echo Flight shutdown] with CINCSAC (the office of the Commander-in-Chief, Strategic Air Command, Offutt AFB, Omaha, Nebraska ).
RS: Oh, you did?!
WF: Oh yeah. Someplace, if I look deep enough, I could probably find the TDY (Temporary Duty) orders to do that.
Towards the end of the interview, Figel alludes to the strike teams actually observing a UFO over one of the sites, but is unable to provide a specific LF, manned or not, nor is he able to recall names of the individuals involved:
WF:...having a dozen [sic] missiles go down in one flight is significant. [Laughs] Let's face it, the [average] failure rate was nowheres near-was miniscule compared to that.
RS: That's right, and then UFO sightings at the same time.
WF: Well, I [reportedly] had them hovering over the sites, you know, and I said, "Right, I'm not a believer in that crap!" And that was reported over the secure line, and I told those guys to make no transmissions and, when the Strike Team got out there-they were on VHF back to me-and they had no idea in the world what I even told them to look for, and they reported them [too].
WALTER FIGEL'S VERSION ACCORDING TO HASTINGS
Per Robert Hastings", "On October 20, 2008, I called Col. Figel and asked him to elaborate on his earlier statements to Bob Salas."
In Walter Figel's statements to Hastings, Echo had three to four sites with maintenance teams performing routine maintenance. When pressed by Hastings, Figel narrows in on four LFs being manned. At least two of the sites were running on diesel generators. Figel was unable to recall what type of maintenance was actually being performed but reiterated that it was "routine." Figel then tells of the incident:
WF: [When] the missiles dropped off alert, I started calling the maintenance people out there on the radio to talk to them. I had the security guard authenticate so I know I'm talking to a security guard and, you know, [I asked] "What's going on? Is maintenance trying to get into the silo?" [The guard said,] "No, they're still in the camper." [So, I said,] "Get 'em up, I want to talk to them." Then I tried to tell them what I had was a Channel 9 No-Go.
WF: Uh, we did that with the sites that were there, that [had maintenance teams and their guards on site] and I sent Strike Teams to two other sites. There's no sense sending them where I [already] have a guard and a gun and an authenticate.
RH: So far in this narrative, you haven't mentioned UFOs.
WF: [Laughs] That's correct. Um, somewhere along the way, um, one of the maintenance people-cause he didn't know what was going on any place else either, they have no capability of talking to each other [at different launch sites], in other words, they can talk to the [launch] capsule but they can't talk to each other-
RH: Right
WF: -unless they were on the radio and no one was using the radio except the security police. And the guy says, "We got a Channel 9 No-Go. It must be a UFO hovering over the site. I think I see one here." [I said,] "Yeah, right, whatever. What were you drinking?" And he tried to convince me of something and I said, well, I basically, you know, didn't believe him. [Laughs] I said, you know, we have to get somebody to look at this [No-Go]. [A short time later] one of the Strike Teams that went out, one of the two, claimed that they saw something over the site.
Based upon the above narrative, Figel tells Hastings that it was the maintenance team that reports the UFO and the strike teams are sent out only to two unmanned sites. Most importantly, the maintenance team that makes the UFO claim is completely underground in the LF/silo reporting to Figel on the SIN line (Secure Intersite Network) and as discussed in a previous article, the top side security guards do not make any reports via radio that they have seen anything unusual. One of the strike teams report that they see an object over one of the sites, but no site location is specified as to whether it is one of the two manned LFs or one of the remaining eight unmanned LFs. ("Tim Hebert's "Off Alert, Echo...Parts 1 and 2.)"
CONTRADICTIONS, DECEPTIONS, OR LIES
As can be seen, we now have two versions of the same incident for consideration. Both are filled with contradictions and cannot be reconciled with one another:
1. The number of manned LFs and the actual maintenance that was being performed. Was it two LFs or three to four LFs? Were the maintenance teams working on the Missile Guidance Systems, the "cans", or were they doing normal routine work?
2. Who made the first report of a UFO over one of the sites...the maintenance team or the topside security guard?
3. The manner in which the SAT strike teams were dispatched...to two unmanned LFs or to the manned LFs.
4. Figel states to Salas that he made a TDY trip to Offutt to brief CINSAC, but this information is omitted in Hastings' interview. Eric Carlson, the Echo crew commander, states that he did receive a call from a general officer from SAC HQ, presumably from the SAC Command Post, asking about the launch capabilities of Echo ten missile sorties. He makes no mentioning of having to personally go to Offutt AFB to brief anyone.
Only one of the two versions can be considered "correct" with the other being either a fabrication or the confabulations of the interviewee. Both cannot exist together. Hastings and Salas have spent a decade researching the Echo incident and both have relied heavily on Walter Figel's statements. Both authors were in contact with each other and would have compared notes. It seems illogical that both could not have seen the remarkable differences in content and context with both interviews. Perhaps Figel only told them what they wanted to hear and both ran with the story regardless of the facts. Figel always believed the UFO report to be a joke and maybe led both interviewers on a "wild goose chase" as a continuation of the original joke. But one issue stands out, both versions contradict each other, either Hastings and Salas were blinded by their "quest", or they and/or Figel deceptively misled the public, or they foolishly and unknowingly propagated the continuation of a confabulation. There lies Hastings' and Salas' "hard problem."

well it was late in the night i was alone out side and my brother was with his freind axross the street' im sure the derection of it was north of fresno Ca. it had a bright white haze around it it was circle and moving slow but im sure it was moving way faster than that cuase it had dissapperd in a cluster of stars way out of our solar system the light went away. as i thoguht in my head to my self i said "i see you" cuase im not the UFO kinda guy. thats when it had left... later that night i only told my brother cuase i did not want any one to think im crazzy. after i had prayed to it hoping some how it can read my thoughts. when i was younger my dad and i seen a '6 million dallar man ' eppisode when a UFO crashes and these people like things can read minds andbut they want there Ship crashes and they cant get back to were they are from... im sure to some this might sound dumb. but im my self i seen what i had seen. 7/6/13... my feeling was weird and did not seem very real until it had left i first noticed it when i was looking at the stars just thinking. was not a plane a plane cannot leave our solar system and a rocket i know what those look like. i wish i had a pic of it if i had one every last soul would belive in some type of smarter Being out there then Just us"

A report by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has disclosed that over 50 percent of the unidentified flying objects (UFOs) usually witnessed above the ground in the late 1950s and 1960s were US spy planes.
According to a report published by Dayton Daily News, the U-2 and SR-71 spy planes were thought as UFOs over half of the time during Project Blue Book.
David MacDonald, executive director of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), said that for sure a lot of the sightings are terrestrial aircraft, classified military projects or whatever terrestrial objects.
The CIA report also officially acknowledged the existence of Area 51, a US airbase known to house extra-terrestrial technology and alien beings.
Area 51 is located in central Nevada, just 90 miles north of Las Vegas. According to the CIA report, the site was used for testing U-2 spy plane. It was chosen to be the site for the testing after the CIA and Air Force staff did a survey.
After World War II people were more concerned of the flying objects they saw in Area 51 because they did not have an idea of what they were.
Historian at National Museum of the US Air Force, Jeffrey Underwood, said that other UFO sightings turned out to be surveillance balloons in the atmosphere of the Earth.
The U-2 often spotted high above airliners in the 1950s because it can fly more than 70,000 feet. The same with SR-71 Blackbird which can fly more than 80,000 feet, according to the recently released CIA report.

The humanoid Robonaut-2 (R-2) was powered-up by inside the International Space Station (ISS) on Sept. 1, 2011 but the astronauts and NASA's Mission Control team noted the need to make sensor adjustments prior to "first motion" by mid-month.
AVIATION WEEK notes, "Project engineers plan a continuing series of workouts that in the near term place R2 before a task board in Destiny to assess the machine's effectiveness with a collection of tools. Next, he may take on maintenance duties in the lab, cleaning air flow filters and sanitizing handrails."
The 330-pound humanoid robot is set to begin its life as an astronaut's assistant or, come November is it to become the acting-commander aboard the International Space Station if each of the six humans depart due to lack of human space transports?
R-2 ground controllers say the robot may be able to take on a few mundane chores - like taking air velocity measurements inside the space station - early next year. Plans now call for R-2 to gain space legs in 2013 for subsequent ISS spacewalks.
But can Robonaut-2 deal with a rapid promotion from astronaut-assistant to ISS command? Can NASA programmers speed the development to tend the space station should humans be required to depart in November? Exactly what R-2 is possibily capable to do if there are no humans around? Are NASA and GM considering such a plan? Where are the "failure is not an option" robot engineers?
