This is one of those matters in cryptozoology that shall be forever unsolvable at this point. The situation is that once upon a time there was supposed to be a photograph that had been circulated in the late 1950s or early 1960s, which was seen casually by several persons someplace or another. And then at one point in time, cryptozoologist Ivan T. Sanderson found that the only copy he had, in form of a photostat from some unspecified earlier publication, had been lost while out on loan to some researchers. Naturally enough, Sanderson wanted to get another copy of it as a replacement. And then something happened (perhaps baffling but perhaps not): nobody seemed to be able to find another copy of the photo or even identify where it had originally come from. To quote an internet source on the subject:...The story of the Thunderbird was relegated to the ranks of creatures like the "jackalope" until 1963, when the story was revived. In the May 1963 issue of Saga, a men's magazine of the day, writer Jack Pearl recounted the story of the Tombstone Thunderbird, along with some large bird sightings of the early 1960's. Not only did he tell the story though, he went one step further and claimed that the Tombstone Epitaph had, in 1886, "published a photograph of a huge bird nailed to a wall. The newspaper said that it had been shot by two prospectors and hauled into town by wagon. Lined up in front of the bird were six grown men with their arms outstretched, fingertip to fingertip. The creature measured about 36 feet from wingtip to wingtip."While this is a different variation of the story (and size of the creature), it seems to be referring to the same incident. Was this nothing more than a mythic legend of the west, or was there something to the story after all?In the September 1963 issue of Fate magazine, a correspondent to the magazine named H.M Cranmer would state that not only was the story true, but the photo was published and had appeared in newspapers all over America. And Cranmer would not be the only one who remembered the photo. Eminent researcher Ivan T. Sanderson also remembered seeing the photo and in fact, even claimed to have once had a photostat of it that he loaned to two associates, who lost it. The editors of Fate even came to believe that they may have published the photo in an earlier issue of the magazine but a search through back issues failed to reveal it. Meanwhile, the original Epitaph story, which again mentions no photograph, was revived in a 1969 issue of Old West, further confusing the issue as to whether the photo was real or not.The Epitaph however stated that it did not exist, or if it did, it had not been in their newspaper. Responding to numerous inquiries, employees of the paper started a thorough search of back issues and files. They could find no such photo and even an extended search of other Arizona and California newspapers of the period produced no results. A NUMBER OF ARTICLES THAT APPEARED IN PURSUIT, THE JOURNAL FOR THE SOCIETY FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF THE UNEXPLAINED PROMPTED A MEMORY FROM W. RITCHIE BENEDICT, WHO RECALLED SEEING IVAN T. SANDERSON HIMSELF DISPLAY A COPY["PHOTOSTAT"-DD] OF THE PHOTO ON A CANADIAN TELEVISION SHOW "THE PIERRE BENTON SHOW". UNFORTUNATELY THOUGH, NO COPIES OF THE SHOW HAVE EVER BEEN FOUND.So, is the photo real? And if not, then why do so many of us with an interest in the unusual claim to remember seeing it? Who knows? IN THE LATE 1990'S, AUTHOR JOHN KEEL INSISTED THAT "I KNOW I SAW IT! AND NOT ONLY THAT - I COMPARED NOTES WITH A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO SAW IT." He wrote to the magazine in the summer of 1970 and gave a firsthand account of a separate flying monster incident that also occurred near Tombstone. The writer had met two cowboys who told about seeing a similar creature around 1890, although they had shot at and chased the creature until their horses refused to go any further. Author Mark Hall believes that the description of the photo creates such a vivid image in the mind that many people who have a knowledge and an interest in curious and eclectic things begin to think the photo is familiar. It literally creates a "shared memory" of something that does not exist. We think we have seen it, but we actually have not.To be honest, I can't say for sure if I agree with this or not. I can certainly see the possibility of a "memory" like this that we have created from inside of our own overcrowded minds, but then again, what if the photo does exist and it's out there, just waiting to be discovered in some dusty garage, overflowing file cabinet or musty basement. A fellow paranormal investigator called me yesterday. We were talking about the sightings of UFO's all over the world. We noted how the subject of ghosts and unknown strange events seem to always spike in occurrence during the month of October. We realize that this may be due in part to it being Halloween season. We also think there is a natural cycle that seems to bring about paranormal events during this time of year.
While talking with my paranormal pal she brought up her aggravation with the reaction so many have to unknown subjects. Like many who try to investigate or write about these things the difficulty of dealing with those we are trying to share information with can be very depressing.
Many who have tried to bring the truth of the paranormal to the public have simply walked away. Discussing this is when my pal blurted out:" If only we could stop the on going slap in the face that constantly gives the paranormal a on going Black Eye- we could maybe figure things out!"
Her statement is true as those who do try to spread the information on these subjects face constant hurdles and barriers by way of the frauds, skeptics, frightened and ignorant. The fact so many people place so much time and effort in clouding the arena with fake reports, false claims, faked photo's and video's keeps the subjects in the paranormal at a dead end.
Many people simply ridicule that which they do not want to understand. Others show apathy with little on no interest at all. The majority of society seems self-involved with daily life and do not care what is going on past their own nose. It is no deep mystery why disclosure has not and will not be necessary. Those who have real knowledge about these subjects are protected by way of our own hands. We willingly stay in the dark, which makes the need to disclose unnecessary. We keep ourselves locked in the dark by our own hands.
The hands that fake the video's, the hands that Photoshop the photo's, the hands that make up ridiculous scenario's of false abductions or sightings, the hands that fake ghost voices or claim light actions of cheap cameras are spiritual orbs- all those hands keep us dumb and living in the dark of what will remain the unknown.
Of course the Internet has increased this mess to the point where an alien race could land on the Brooklyn Bridge and the public would tease, laugh and ridicule whoever witnessed the event. We have been trained by all the dirty hands polluting these subjects to simply mix all the nonsense with the real events leaving it all a pile of tangled confusion.
I have spoken to credible honest good people who will not talk openly about the encounters they have lived through. They fear the reaction of those they live and work with. That fear of rejection is far worse then the actual event they endured. How sad is it that we have been trained to reject the very things we need to be exploring? It leaves us with a constant black eye on the world of the paranormal. So many dirty hands do produce one heck of a shiner!
I watch as the need to be seen, heard or paid attention to have people rushing to report a sighting they did not have or abduction that never took place. In time you can spot the frauds by a mile, as they tend to over do the report. They also use ridiculous similarities that thread the fakes from the true experiences. Those who have had real encounters are often similar in the way they report events. It does not take long to separate those who are truthful to those who are not.
It is sad so many people spend hours carrying out these fraudulent claims. I am sure they are looking for fame, glory or money. Those who work in this subject matter will gladly tell you there is little fame or glory in this work and money is long and hard to come by. If those are you motives you are in the wrong area for sure.
The people who are in need of attention or extremely lonely who use the paranormal are more difficult to contend with. I think many may need help from trained professionals and should not be lost in an area that could increase their anxiety. Finding lost souls in a world that can be slick and harsh is always sad. However those who make fake video's or photo shop a fake sighting to show off their skills are truly the ones delivering the worst black eyes to those trying to swim against the odds to the truth of paranormal events.
It would be wonderful if those lost in fantasy would stick to science fiction. It would be great for them to keep that sensation of silly stories that fill them with movie house giggles and screams in their movie theaters. It would be wonderful if we could split the turf leaving the attention thrill seekers to their games and those who are living the real deal free to speak out without fear of being abused when they speak out about extraordinary events they have encountered.
I have been walking these confusing roads for most of my lifetime. I try to sort out the truthful from the frauds. It is difficult at times for even the most hardened interviewer to be sure about those we talk to and write about. We try to use our backgrounds, experience, and gut feelings to the best of our ability. Unfortunately we make mistakes and believe those who have private agenda's. The Paranormal is used and abused by so many that the truth often gets lost in the confusion.
I do know as it stands real honest sightings and encounters with the unknown are washed down in importance by the dirty hands inflicting the black eyes of false statements and photo's.
Next time you become angry at the way we are all kept in the dark about so many things paranormal understand a great deal of it is of our own doing.
As it stands the subjects of the paranormal are the best laugh around. As it now exists we spend hours faking reports and video's. We keep things unknown a huge joke. As long as this remains the norm the subjects of the unknown will never become known and the truth will remain lost to our own ignorance. I am afraid the paranormal will remain this way until we grow up and become adult enough to deal with them.
Look at how we allow the very people who should be protecting us the freedom to call every recent sighting Chinese lanterns or reflective lights from other sources. We are the ones who willingly and quickly laugh at those who see things they do not understand and willingly accept all ridiculous explanations without question.
Until we stop all these actions towards these subjects we will forever remain locked in the Dark Ages of the Unknown.
A short time ago along a friend and I witnessed a strange bright orb type craft hovering over the Long Island Sound. The Sound is a large body of water between Long Island New York and Connecticut. This week I read many people in Connecticut also witnessed strange crafts flying over their state. I knew at once that what I had seen and what they were seeing had to be connected. I also knew it would be fruitless to try to connect the two as the police in Connecticut where already on the ridicule train tagging the sightings Chinese Lanterns. I am wondering who owns this large gaggle of Chinese lanterns as they seem to be simply being let loose all over the world lately? I think they are playing out the lantern excuse for all it is worth. I also know what I saw that night and it was NOT a Chinese lantern!

A Different Perspective

" Tom Carey, (seen here signing a book at the Roswell festival in 2011) a UFO researcher living in Pennsylvania and one of the authors of Witness to Roswell," realized that there was a great deal of work left to be done on the Roswell UFO case. You might say that his dream was to pull all the information together, to locate and interview the witnesses who have yet to tell their stories, verify as best as possible the facts of the case, and write it all down in a coherent and rational analysis. To help with this project, Tom worked to bring together a team of researchers who understood this case. He succeeded in convincing both Don Schmitt and me to join him in his quest.
Don Schmitt had, in the late 1980s, realized there was still work to be done on the Roswell case. The surface had only been scratched by others. With the support of the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies, he began his research. One of the things he did was invite me to join him, believing that my military experience would be of help in understanding Army operations and in communicating with retired military personnel on their level.
As everyone who has been paying attention knows, Don (seen here are the Roswell Festival in 2011) and I had a falling out over some research techniques and matters unrelated to the investigation. While these seemed important then, it could be said that in time we reevaluated these issues. We reconnected after I returned from Iraq and it was as if no time had passed.
A couple of months ago Tom asked me if I was willing to join him in putting together what he thought of as the ultimate Roswell crash book. I was enthusiastic about the idea and readily agreed.
After Tom and I had discussed what we thought needed to be covered, Tom approached Don with the same idea. Don also thought it a good idea and the Dream Team was born (can I, as a participant, refer to it as a Dream Team?).
Although we are still, more or less, in the planning stages, we have already made some discoveries. I have learned of a doctor who might have participated in an autopsy of the alien creatures. True enough, we have heard this before, but the man is a doctor, was a doctor then, and is now willing to talk about what he had seen.
Also true, I have not verified all of what he said, but there are some indications that he is who he claims to be. I mention this only because it is one of the first things that we have learned.
We have also begun, again, to use FOIA in an attempt to learn more about the Air Force investigation of the Roswell case. This means, simply, that we have again gone to the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force to review documents that relate to their Roswell investigation. We wanted to know what transpired in the meetings, what was written in the memos, and what the internal reports might have said.
I tried this once before. I spent three years chasing this information, finally locating what they had at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Periodically we will provide updates about the investigation, letting people know where we are going. We plan to pull it all together in a book that will answer the various questions as best we can. Yes, we know that we won't be able to please everyone... what if we find a terrestrial explanation that actually works? Then the UFO community will be angry... And if we find that it was something alien, well, I doubt that the Skeptics will be satisfied.
So now we begin again, not from our own goal-line to be sure but somewhere down the field and this time we will find the answer and the proof to support that answer.

It's hard to imagine, however, that even the most hardened of cynics wouldn't be compelled by information published on the subject over the past 10 years. Sometimes raising as many unsettling questions as it answers, this serious research not only deserves notice, it demands consideration. The problem is that, no matter what mainstream science reporters are covering -from stories on nasa to promises of space tourism-they routinely ignore the subject altogether.
Detractors ought to consider the legacy of the late astronomer and physicist J. Allen Hynek, an investigator on government-sponsored studies of UFOs from the late '40s through the '60s, who went from being a skeptic to something of a UFO advocate before he died in 1986. What made him abandon his academic and political prejudices about a subject that usually draws jeers? It was no doubt information like that contained in an unofficial document from the RAND Corporation, a generally conservative think tank, titled 'UFOs: What to Do?'
Written in 1968 and publicly released in 1997, the study tracks sightings from the 1500s to the modern era, including 'the large number' of UFOs spotted near atomic and military installations. While the report recounts how certain government agencies recommended handling such sightings (read: ridicule and denial), there's also speculation that there could be as many as 100 million intergalactic civilizations more advanced than our own.

Given that more substantiation has since accrued, one can't help but wonder how-media neglect notwithstanding-meaningful discussion about the existence of the extraterrestrial has been stifled for so long.
In 1997, retired colonel Philip J. Corso, a member of President Eisenhower's national security team and an Army intelligence officer in Korea, published an explosive book called The Day After Roswell (Pocket Books) that offers an intriguing take on the question. The author claims that materials recovered from a crash site in New Mexico in the late '40s were seeded to corporate interests that patented the technologies-including lasers, integrated circuitry, fiber-optic networks, accelerated particle beam devices, and the Kevlar material in bulletproof vests-ostensibly to hide the original source.
Corso also argues that there are two space programs: the one that we read about and the one that is already using off-planet technology recovered and reverse-engineered for advanced military and commercial purposes-including a Star Wars system he claims has already been deployed to fend off extraterrestrials.
Richard M. Dolan, author of UFOs and the National Security State: An Unclassified History, Volume One 1941-1973 (Keyhole Publishing, 2000), says it's difficult to follow up on claims such as Corso's because, while classified documents created by government agencies can occasionally be ferreted out, proprietary information held by businesses and global corporations is hard to come by. Since the military and the federal government rely on subcontractors to do some of their most sensitive work, using special-access projects (SAPs) and unacknowledged special-access projects (USAPs), secrets are easier to keep. Dolan's next work, scheduled for publication in early 2007, will explore the history of SAPs and USAPs since 1973.
Writing on his website, author and astrophysicist Bernard Haisch points out that a SAP 'is for programs considered to be too sensitive for normal classification measures.... They are protected by a security system of great complexity. Many of the SAPs are located within industry funded through special contracts.' Much of his analysis is based on 'In Search of the Pentagon's Billion-Dollar Hidden Budgets,' an article by Bill Sweetman in the highly regarded British publicationJane's International Defence Review.
'Even members of Congress on appropriations committees (the Senate and House committees that allocate budgets) and intelligence committees are not allowed to know anything about these programs,' Haisch writes. 'Moreover, Freedom of Information Act requests cannot penetrate unacknowledged special access programs.'
In Chain of Command: The Road from 9/11 to Abu Ghraib (HarperCollins, 2004), New Yorker contributor Seymour Hersh reports that one SAP, used to recruit operatives, has been linked to military torture in Iraq. The desired effect is the same: to avoid scrutiny and sidestep opposing elements that exist in the CIA and Pentagon.
'The granddaddy of all USAPs is the UFO/ET matter,' writes Steven Greer in his book Extraterrestrial Contact: The Evidence and Implications (Crossing Point, 1999). Greer-who says USAPs are a top-secret, compartmentalized project that not even the commander in chief has the power to access-founded the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CSETI). Since the early '90s, working under the assumption that the USAP model exists, Greer and CSETI associates have met often with high-level officials of the U.S. and other governments, including former CIA director James Woolsey.
In May 2001 CSETI held a press conference at the National Press Club at which it produced an impressive list of witnesses from the government, the military, and the private sector-along with a ream of documents and film footage-establishing, as noted in Greer's book Disclosure (Crossing Point, 2001), that 'we are indeed being visited by advanced extraterrestrial civilizations and have been for some time.' Among the witnesses was John Callahan, who, when he was division chief of the Accidents and Investigations Branch of the Federal Aviation Administration, headed a 1986 investigation of a Japanese 747 that was chased for 30 minutes by a UFO (the incident was captured on radar and recorded). Not surprisingly, major media outlets all but ignored the press conference and failed to scrutinize the supplementary material.
There are a number of reasons the media avoid these topics, argues Terry Hansen in The Missing Times: News Media Complicity in the UFO Cover-up (Xlibris, 2001), including historical precedent, national security, and psychological resistance. (Consider, the author writes, that 'for five years, the editors of Scientific American refused to acknowledge the aviation achievements of the Wright brothers because the magazine had been told by trusted authorities that manned, heavier-than-air flight was a scientific impossibility.')
In 2006 one would hope for a better, more enlightened investigative media climate than the one that existed at the dawn of aviation. If the claims by Corso and others are true, and other crash retrievals of and technological transfers from extraterrestrial spacecraft since the '40s have continued, imagine what mind-boggling innovations have yet to be revealed-and who stands to profit.

In the early 1990's I had a chance to visit a Col. John Alexander at his office in Las Vegas.
Apparently he had just moved in to that office there.
He was quite cordial.
We asked him some questions about non-lethal weapons systems and their applications.
I even asked him a couple of questions about "thanatology".
It was quite interesting.
However, towards the end of the interview we asked him a question about "UFOs".
As soon as he heard us mention "UFOs", his attitude suddenly changed and he became totally upset.
He then scolded us and told us never to bring up that topic again.
He said that he had absolutely no interest in "UFOs".
Anyway, upon leaving his office ("after we apologized to him"), he led us the way out of his office.
As soon as he started walking towards the hallway to lead us out of his office, I instantly went behind his desk and had a quick look at his computer screen.
To my amazement, his computer screen showed a partial list of UFO organizations and researchers.
To this day, I have no idea what to think of him and this experience there in his office.
This is why I still have a difficult time trusting the ultimate goal of organizations such as the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), financed and headed by Robert Bigelow of Las Vegas.
Col. John Alexander was under the payroll of Robert Bigelow in the 1990s.
(He still may be, even today).
My fear has been that the goal of NIDS is to dominate and control the flow of UFO information and to infiltrate organizations such as MUFON, through their vast financial resources.
I could have been wrong on this. I still am not sure.

Today I 'Googled' neon green UFO Central Florida because I had seen something in October 2012 that I still think about and wonder what it was. That is how I found your site.
I reported seeing a neon green object in the sky during the day (7:55 a.m.) on October 21st, 2012 to the American Meteor Society last year.
There were other reports filed from different locations across Central Florida on the same day and about the same time that I had seen it, so I thought that it must have been a meteor.
However, after seeing the video of the Russian meteor on Feb 15th this year, it really didn't seem like the same type of object that I saw in the sky last October.
The object I saw did not seem to be moving as fast and didn't have a 'trail' behind it. I did not hear any sounds or see a flash as it went behind the tree line. I remember seeing it now as if I had just seen it today.
The object was a really brilliant green. I would describe it as neon green and it looked white hot around the edges. Almost a sizzling whitish look around the neon green ball.
The object was mostly round like a ball, except there was like a teardrop look to it with the small 'tail' looking part of it to the left of it from my vision point. I only observed it for about 3-5 seconds before it went behind the tree line in the northwest.
It appeared to be intact as it went behind the tree line. It looked to be fairly large in the sky through my windshield as I was driving and appeared to be traveling from the south to the north or northwest.
I live in East Central Florida in a small town south of New Smyrna Bch, Fl. The town is about a half an hour north of Kennedy Space Center.

UFO SIGHTING IN NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS ON SEPTEMBER 27TH 2013 - 2 GLOWING DISCS LOW IN WESTERN SKY
At 6:52 p.m. 27September in Naperville Illinois, I noticed one, than two objects low on the horizon. One object, glowing yellowish/white, in the west, much larger than Venus. It faded in and out, from extremely bright, to dull, to invisible, and then back to extremely bright. 2nd object higher in the sky in west as well, about 10 degrees to the SW of first object. This object appeared briefly, moving east slowly, and than move off West very quickly. The first, brighter object, stayed stationary for about two minutes then scrambled west quickly. Very large objects, but far away as well. This was around sunset, but were not satellites or planets- much more luminosity than Venus or Mars.

It was specifically triangle created, with one light which was pale on any chance, not sure about any other lights. We are all really taking part in paranormal junk, so I quickly pulled onto the side of the street and heavy my lights off and at about the time the craft nimbly took off. It was not there in about 10 seconds.
